Tough Challenge Lies Ahead on Road

Realistically, last week's game was a warm-up and the results were mixed, with a very good looking defense, and an offense punctuated with question marks. This week, the Aztecs go on the road to meet Cal in what could prove to be one of the toughest games of the whole season.

Even in a disappointing 5-7 season in 2014, the Bears had a wide-open offense that had no trouble scoring. It was their defense that let them down. But signs are they will be much improved on the D side this year. It's hard to evaluate their 73-14 win over Grambling, but it's clear the offense is still able to put lots of points on the board -- 52 of their 73 points scored in the first half. And the defense gave up no points till the 4th quarter.

The two basic questions facing the Aztecs: Will the D, which looked so good against USD, be as effective against a scoring machine? And will the offense, with very little passing and a disappointing running game, make big improvements this week?

Kick-off is 2 p.m.
