Tomorrow’s Game with Boise State, a Tough Test

Any way you look at it, tomorrow night’s game in Aztec Warrior Stadium will be a battle. After last year’s stunning upset by the Aztecs in Bronco Stadium, where they “never” lose, you can bet Boise State will be out for revenge. Equally motivating for them, they are determined to keep their lead in the Mountain division of the MWC.

The Aztecs, sitting 5-1 in conference play and riding a 3-game win streak, want to keep the momentum rolling. More important:  even though they already are “bowl eligible,” the Aztecs are not guaranteed a bowl bid. A win over the Broncos would certainly put a lock on that!   A big supporting crowd will help, so be sure you are there.

You remember last year’s game. On that ugly blue field, where they had lost maybe two games in the last decade, the Broncos were shocked when Colin Lockett returned the opening kick-off for a touchdown.

After their first touchdown, the Broncos went for two from their swinging gate formation, and the Aztecs slammed it shut. This had the 25th-ranked Broncos playing catch-up the rest of the game. So, after their final touchdown, they had to go for two and this time, no gimmicky formation. Rene Siluano intercepted the conversion pass. Aztecs won, 21-19.

Equally impressive, the Aztecs ran out the clock, controlling the ball for the final 5:35 of the game. Faced with a 4th and 2, a first down would assure an Aztec victory. Adam Muema gained 13. Game over. Victory formation till the clock ran out.

Now for an encore! Be there. Kick-off at 7:30.

GO AZTECS!
