You have to lay most of the blame on the offense. They started mostly OK, but turnovers probably cost us points. We wound up the first half with a solid TD drive that looked like a momentum builder, putting us ahead, 14-10. But we gained less than 100 yards in the second half and again muffed chances to score with costly turnovers or stagnant efforts.
Given a chance against a tiring Aztec defense, on the field too much, the Wolf Pack came back big, especially in the fourth quarter.
The result? A major setback in the battle for the West division MW title. Nevada now has the tiebreaker even if the Aztecs do well. And we do face Boise State on the road.
This week is a day game at home, starting with a 3:30 kickoff, to be topped by the Annual Sky Show. The foe is Idaho. The Aztecs we saw at Nevada better not take the Vandals lightly, but we should be solid favorites. Just don’t take a win for granted, on either side of the ball. I am sure Rocky will have a few choice words for the team all week as they prepare to get back to their best form.
